Roger Standing

Roger Standing is a Baptist minister, author and educator. Having been a local pastor in Leeds and Croydon, he has also taught theology at Spurgeon’s College in London in various roles including that as Principal, where he continues as a Senior Research Fellow.

The relationship between Christian faith and contemporary culture has been a consistent passion and focus in his work. In Liverpool he established The Jesus Disco to take the Christian message to young people who would never set foot in church, while in Croydon he helped to pioneer one of the earliest responses to the asylum/refugee crisis in the late 1990s with the Croydon Refugee Day Centre. His most recent book reflects on this further and is entitled Cultural Hermeneutics: the world through the lens of theology (SCM, 2023).
